Israel is a settler colony entirely reliant on the USA’s imperialist sponsorship. It does not have a self-sufficient economy yet has high living standards and an advanced and over-large military. Seeing the subservience of bourgeois politicians to the zionist project, some misinterpret this relationship as being flipped up on its head – Israel seems ‘so important’ to the USA that it looks as though the tail is wagging the dog.
It is said that, through organisations like Aipac (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee), Israel is controlling the USA. However, this flies in the face of the facts. The money that funds zionist pressure groups ultimately comes from US finance capital. There are clear US imperialist interests in stirring up war in the middle east, with the main objective being to keep control of its oil and gas supplies. Israel plays a crucial role as the USA’s military outpost in the middle east – a dagger pointed at the heart of the Arab and other west Asian people’s liberation struggle.
