Book launch: Identity politics or class politics?
Two prongs of philosophical attack by the bourgeoisie have had devastating consequences for the communist movement since the end of the second world war. The first is
revisionism
, the second is
. If we are unable to unite workers on the basis of their economic class, that immutable material fact on top of which the entire capitalism system is built, then we are nothing. No division of workers into this or that identity group strengthens the working-class movement – on the contrary, it undermines it. Comrade will present her new pamphlet, which aims to give a Marxist overview of this crucial topic, separating what is essential from all the culture wars noise that threatens to drown out all reasoned conversation and debate. While it is not in our interest to allow identity politics to divide workers, neither does it serve us to get into slanging matches with workers who have been duped by them. Our aim must be to persuade as many of the confused as possible, through reason and science, while directing our full fire at the class enemy that has created these divisions. Monopoly capital will not be hurt in the slightest if we are diverted into forming battle lines against every misinformed fellow worker – quite the reverse.

Event: Hope Bird, a revolutionary Korean street performance
Hope Bird are south Korea’s only pro-reunification performance group. Their inspiring revolutionary artistry was on show in Gwangju last May, at the international conference of the World Anti-imperialist Platform. Find a clip of one of their past performances . Hosted by the Platform, the group are currently on a tour of European cities, ending with two street performances in London. It began life more than three decades ago in 1993 as a regional musical group coming out of the National Council of Workers’ cultural movement. After its first album resonated with many Koreans, the collective gave birth to the performing group Hope Bird. In 1994, while preparing for its debut show, ‘Let Morning Shine’, the performers were all arrested by police under south Korea’s draconian national security act, which forbids any act of communication or expression of sympathy with north Korea. Despite this and other repressive measures by south Korean security forces, the troupe has been active in the country’s vibrant (but little-known internationally) cultural movement for independence, democracy and reunification.
Hope Bird will hold two street performances on London's south bank on 6 and 7 April. Exact location TBD.

May Day: International Workers’ Day
Join the CPGB-ML’s militant contingent to mark International Workers’ Day in the streets of London. Wear red, carry a party flag, and show your support for the struggling workers and oppressed peoples of the world. This system isn’t working for us; it’s time for it to go! The demonstration will be forming up all morning on Clerkenwell Green and will leave the square around midday, marching to Trafalgar Square, where our contingent will hold a mini rally of our own next to the party’s stall.
