When the mural in support of Liam Óg/Mo Chara was unveiled in Belfast, Kneecap wrote on Twitter: ‘West Belfast knows political policing. West Belfasts knows colonialism. West Belfast knows solidarity.’

Kneecap’s lead singer Mo Chara (meaning friend/comrade) is being prosecuted under the Terrorism Act 2000 for raising the flag of Hezbollah, the Lebanese political and military resistance group that has been a thorn in the side of Israel’s expansionist plans for over 40 years.

Hezbollah is not active on British soil. But in Britain today, any criticism of our imperialist foreign policy is being repressed and ‘banned’. As in apartheid South Africa, our home secretary wields extraordinary and undemocratic powers. At the stroke of her pen, resistance organisations are outlawed and workers’ political rights are curtailed.

Freedom of speech?

It is generally assumed that we have ‘freedom of speech’ in this country. But the reality has been shown clearly that Britain is heading towards ever increased repression – and the Labour party is the willing servant of the City of London’s billionaire elite, who want to keep workers in subservience.

Kneecap’s roots in the republican Irish community mean that they understand well the fight against British imperialism – and that zionism, like Ulster unionism, is a supremacist tool of British foreign policy.

Who is responsible for the genocide?

The Israeli genocide in Gaza, like the HTS genocide in Syria and the Congolese genocide, and countless other atrocities (including the enforced starvation of the Irish peasantry between 1845 and 1852) are deliberate policies aimed at robbing the working and oppressed peoples of those countries, and workers of all nations, of their rightful inheritance: their land, labour and mineral resources.

It is the bankers and hedge fund managers in the City of London and Wall Street who are ultimately responsible – it is the capitalist class that make the wounds.

Labour and Tory in harmony with genocidal capitalism

Yvette Cooper, ‘Labour’ home secretary, is not content with simply continuing Suella Braverman’s work. Both sent police officers to arrest and intimidate people who were speaking out against the genocide, charging with ‘racism’ (Public Order Act) and ‘terrorism’ (Terrorism Act 2000) our own party comrades and THOUSANDS of other British workers who oppose the Israeli-US-UK-EU Axis of Genocide in Gaza.

On Wednesday 2 July 2025, Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper, and the entire party of Labour criminals (right to so-called ‘left’), along with their Tory counterparts, voted to proscribe Palestine Action as a ‘terrorist’ group. We note that PalAction joins the organisations of Palestinian resistance, which were also proscribed (against international law and UN general assembly resolutions 37/43 and 45/130, among others) in 2022 by Tory home secretary Priti Patel.

Who are Palestine Action?

Palestine Action is an activist organisation of British workers who engaged in non-violent direct action to sabotage companies operating on British soil that are complicit in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. On 20 June 2025, four PalAaction activists entered RAF Brize Norton air base and painted aircraft being used to facilitate genocide with red paint.

In a striking illustration of what the genocide is all about, we learned that the planes were in fact leased to the RAF by a City hedge fund – Polygon Global Partners LLP. It was Polygon that sustained the loss when the planes were damaged, and which profits when the planes are used to assist the genocide in Gaza. They no doubt profit further from Israel’s role in policing the entire middle-eastern theatre for the safe exploitation of Anglo-American and EU capital.

Our ‘Labour’ PM Sir Keir Starmer tweeted: “The act of vandalism committed at RAF Brize Norton is disgraceful. Our armed forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us.” Presumably it is Polygon Global Partners LLP who are really the ‘very best of British’ in his eyes!

When the backlash came to Starmer’s role in the genocide, he deceitfully tried to paint PalAction members as ‘antisemites’, claiming that they were “targeting jewish-owned businesses”. What a disgrace! This is taken straight from the Ben-Gvir, Benjamin Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant and Ben-Gurion genocide playbook. But no one is fooled.

PalAction don’t target individuals. They have not harmed any person. Their action has been made necessary by the failure of our wider union movement and organised working class to take any effective action against the genocide – and by the participation of our own ruling class and state in these terrible crimes. The unions have done nothing because they are tied hand and foot to the imperialist Labour party, which faithfully serves British monopoly capital.

It is patently absurd to describe criminal damage and pacifist conscientious objectors as ‘terrorists’. Even the arch-reactionary London Times has pointed this out in its saner moments. Moreover, the fact that PalAction’s misdemeanours have been committed in order to stop the commissioning of a genocide – the highest of all international crimes – has repeatedly led British juries to acquit PalAction activists who have been brought to trial.

On the very same day they approved PalAction’s proscription, female Labour and Tory MPs had the gall to line up and pose with ‘suffragette’ sashes – celebrating the group led by Emmeline and Sylvia Pankhurst that fought by means of direct action (!) for women’s right to vote.

Sylvia Pankhurst was also a key leader of the ‘Hands Off Russia!’ campaign, which stopped the British army and its imperialist leaders, including Winston Churchill, from intervening to strangle the young Soviet Republic that had emerged like a phoenix out of the imperialist slaughter of WW1.

Labour MPs seem to be lost to all sense of their own hypocrisy and servitude to imperialism. The leaders of the official trade union movement, with their shameless support for Labour despite its many heinous crimes, has shown that they are not alone.

Bob Vylan

In June 2025, while Kneecap’s Glastonbury performance was being censored by our ‘national’ broadcaster, the BBC, precisely for their previous raising of the Hezbollah flag (for which Mo is now in court), punk duo Bob Vylan strode onto the stage and led the entire crowd in chanting “Free, Free, Palestine!”, and followed this up with “Death! Death to the IDF!” in which the crowd joined enthusiastically, and which was broadcast live on national TV.

After the usual circus of political and media ‘outrage’ – not about the genocidal murder of 400,000 Palestinians, but about demanding the death or dismantlement of the genocidal army perpetrating it – the band were warned by the British police that any repetition will see them and their fans arrested and similarly charged.

But the cat is already out of the bag. These cultural workers, these artists and performers are light-years ahead of our entire mainstream press and bourgeois political pigsty (including the so-called ‘Labour’ parliamentarians and their Trotskyite and revisionist disciples – all of whom carry the hod for British imperialism). They revealed the widespread popular support for Palestine and revulsion with the genocide that no law and no police repression can extinguish!

Mass resistance

The only question is: how long will we allow the capitalist state to suppress us?

If the entire demonstration of 700,000, marching apparently under the PSC leadership on Saturday 9 August 2025, had moved to Parliament Square in support of those who are bravely opposing the proscription of PalAction and advanced the same slogans and held up the same placards, the limits of the imperialist state machine to repress the British workers would have been revealed.

We must demand:

  • Workers, artists and political groups must demand our right to a voice, and to independent political action.
  • The breaking of all links with the genocidal Labour party: it is the tame leadership of our movement, dominated by links to the Labour party on every front, that prevents effective opposition to the crushing of our rights to free speech – and stops us effectively opposing the genocide.
  • The breaking of all ties with Israel: The Israeli ambassador must be expelled, and the Israeli embassy must be closed.
  • The exposure of the entire zionist lobby and its members brought to criminal trial for their complicity in genocide.

Clearly none of this can happen while our government is run by pro-zionist stooges, from Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer to David Lammy, all of whom are servants of imperialism to their fingertips.

The battle is getting hotter!

Workers need a party that represents our real interests.
