The following resolution was passed unanimously by the tenth party congress of the CPGB-ML.
*****
This congress recognises that there are no laws of capitalist economics that mandate the health and happiness of the working class, and that the drive for profits will run roughshod over any notions of care, respect and decency regarding human life. This is evidenced by decades of callous degradation of social welfare and provision, ranging from the privatisation of public spaces, rising pensions age, unaffordable care homes, and the two-child benefit cap.
What remains of health and social care is run by capitalist bureaucrats who have implemented a system to treat every citizen in need as a criminal. The legalisation of euthanasia in an imperialist state will almost certainly lead to the state murder of citizens who are no longer valuable as workers, whether they are disabled, depressed or elderly.
Of those requesting euthanasia in imperialist countries that have already legalised it, an average of 45 percent gave the reason that they did not want to be a burden on their friends, family or caregivers.
This congress believes that legalised euthanasia is a threat to the working class under a capitalist system, and that instead we must demand proper healthcare, social care, and dignified, comfortable retirement homes and hospices with physical and mental activities for workers that require them.
This congress upholds the examples from communist nations of what real care for the health and wellbeing of the working class looks like, and recognises that only with the working class in power in Britain can we achieve these demands!
